Maureen Wroblewitz reveals why she kept her decision to Miss Universe Philippines ‘a secret’

It’s official: Maureen Wroblewitz is going for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 crown!

The Filipino-German model, who is famous for becoming the first Filipina to win “America’s Next Top Model," confirmed the news on Instagram Monday, shortly after the Miss Universe Organization announced this year's 100 delegates, which included her.

Sharing some stunning shots of herself looking regal in a white dress, Maureen explained why she had to keep her decision to join “a secret.”

“Surprise! I apologize for the white lies. As difficult as it was, I had to keep this a secret,” Maureen began.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank you for the overwhelming support. Please know that I very much appreciate all the love and your kind words. This is the new chapter I’ve talked about in a recent post and I humbly ask for your continued support."

Maureen shared that she always considered “dipping [her] toes in pageantry,” but was determined to commit to it when she "felt ready."

“It was not until I received my sign from the Universe, that I knew I couldn’t wait for that feeling of readiness and that I’d have to take that first step in order to feel ready," she said.

Maureen also admitted feeling "terrified," but said it was just fear of the "unknown."

"What I fear most though is living a life of regrets," she said.

"I don’t want to grow old thinking that I should’ve joined, alternatively I would like to say ‘I’m glad I’ve joined. I’ve learned to stop saying ‘one day’ and instead I say ‘day 1."

Maureen expressed her gratitude to her managers, her pageant camp Aces and Queens and the Miss Universe Organization for the opportunity.

The model turned-beauty queen also ended her message with an encouraging note.

"I hope through this I inspire you to reach for the Universe. It’s all up to you. You can achieve anything you put your mind to and sometimes if you believe hard enough the Universe will conspire in helping you succeed," Maureen wrote.

On Monday night, the Miss Universe Philippines organization revealed the initial list of 100 candidates vying for the crown. It included actress Kisses Delavin, Ms. Globe 2019 second runner-up Leren Bautista, and content creator Ayn Bernos. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
