TikTok’s ‘Conyo Girl’ Rain Matienzo on why she skipped Miss Universe Philippines 2021: ‘I am not yet ready’

TikTok's "Conyo Girl" Rain Matienzo recently uploaded a video on the social media platform replying to a curious fan, who asked her why she skipped this year's pageant.

“To be completely honest, I really wanted to join but the short answer to that is, I am just not ready,” she said in a mix of English and Filipino.

According to Rain, she hasn't even practiced her "winning face" yet. It sounds like a joke, especially after she acted out — with a full range of facial expressions — the very possible scene of winning the pageant.

“This is not a pretty face!” She said, ending her TikTok video.

Speaking to GMA News Online Wednesday, Rain revealed she was actually "thinking about it [joining Miss Universe Philippines 2021] and was ready to lodge my application just to see if I’ll qualify for the Top 100, but the deadline coincided with my school activities,” she said.

She took that — the deadline coinciding with her school things — as a sign. “Because I can’t give it my 100 percent,” Rain explained.

“I want to make sure that I’ll be prepared to put up a fight when the time is right," she added.

So what's her timeline in making her pageant dreams come true, you may ask? Rain is looking at 2025 as her target year, but if the opportunity comes earlier, “why not?”

Rain recently graduated Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communication.

In one of her university photos posted on Twitter, she also expressed her interest for the crown and title, saying: “Sablay today, Miss Universe sash tomorrow.”
