Mike Villegas says music is in 'good hands,' there is hope in youth's songs

OPM power couple Mike Villegas and Bayang Barrios believe that music nowadays can play a huge part in bringing light to everyone.

In an episode of "The Howie Severino Podcast," Mike said there are a lot of opinions around and it's hard deliver a message, but there are still artists who strive to do so with their songs.

"There are musicians, composers out there and we try, as well, to sing in a song what we would like to say. Mas madali [It's easier]," he said.

"The act of writing it out and finding the melody for it helps out because you slow down, you have to figure out kung ano 'yung [what the] best way to say it - best with singing," he continued.

Mike added that through the music of OPM artists, he can see that there is light for the coming days.

"Right now, communication is such a paradox. It's easy to be heard now but nobody is listening," he said. "Everybody is talking, everybody has her own opinions of things but there's hope."

"I hear it in Ben&Ben’s music, I hear it in Gloc-9's music, I hear it in Ebe's (Dancel) music, the music of the youth," he added. "The music is in good hands."

According to Mike, music as a platform to say what needs to be said is a great way to make people connect with each other.

"You can say what you want to say in a way that doesn't confront and it's not as confrontational and you'll be listened to more if you're able to sing it, put it into song," he said.

Bayang, meanwhile, added that despite the world being "depressing" amid tough times, it is already a huge thing to be able to create music and give inspiration to others.

In the same interview, the couple admitted to having a hard time amid the pandemic, but they are using it as a chance to adapt to the new world.
