Painting of Pasig River’s prewar view added to National Museum’s collection

A painting of Pasig River’s prewar view by Filipino master Fabian de la Rosa has been added to the collection of the National Museum of the Philippines.

The piece was De la Rosa’s gift to Dr. Isabelo Concepcion, who was his physician, friend, and colleague at the University of the Philippines, according to a post on the museum’s Facebook page. It was painted in the 1930s.

De la Rosa served as a faculty member and later dean of the College of Fine Arts, while Concepcion taught at the UP College of Medicine and became head of its physiology department.

The artwork was formally received from Concepcion’s heirs including his daughter, national scientist Dr. Mercedes B. Concepcion. Artist Impy Pilapil also facilitated the donation.

The National Museum of the Philippines is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. – RC, GMA News
