Barbra Streisand's long-awaited memoir is scheduled to drop later this year
Multi-hyphenate celebrity and living legend Barbra Streisand's memoir is coming.
"My Name is Barbra" slated to be released on November 7, 2023 in hardback, e-book, and audiobook.
The book will be published by Century, the imprint of Penguin Random House UK.
According to the website, the "book is, like Barbra herself, frank, funny, opinionated, and charming," where she will recount her early struggles to become an actress, making the career switch to singing, the recording of some of her acclaimed albums, working on projects like "Yentl" and "The Prince of Tides," her political advocacy, her friendships with figures like actor Marlon Brando and politician Madeleine Albright, and her marriage to James Brolin since 1998.
According to Billboard magazine, the memoir was first announced in 2015 with 2017 as its original release date. However, it wasn't finished in time.
Barbra, 80, has had a successful career spanning 60 years. In that time, she's achieved EGOT (Emmy Award, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) status and has two Oscars, 10 Grammys, five Emmys, 11 Golden Globes, and a Tony award.
She also achieved numerous milestone firsts in her career. "Yentl" was the first film she produced herself and made her the first woman to direct, produce, write, and star in a major motion picture. She was also the first woman to win a Golden Globe award for best director, and she was the first female composer to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Evergreen" (Love Theme from "A Star Is Born"). Barbra starred in the 1976 movie version of "A Star is Born."
As a book befitting her long career, the memoir is listed at 1,040 pages.
ABC News reported that in 2021, Barbra shared that none other than the Former First Lady of the United States Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis asked her to write a memoir back in the early 1980s when Onassis was a book editor.
Streisand, a philanthropist, also created the Streisand Foundation in 1986 to support women’s rights, voting rights, and environmental protection, and more.
The book will retail for $45, which is approximately P2,470. The local price is subject to change.
