Cheska Garcia, Ayn Bernos, and Sam Corrales celebrate International Women's Day with #IAmWoman campaign

On International Women's Day, women from all walks of life gathered at Maybank Performing Arts Theater in Bonifacio Global City for the launch of #IAmWoman, a campaign dedicated to celebrating women's individuality and confidence.

Among the inspiring women who took up space were celebrity vlogger Cheska Garcia, content creator and beauty queen Ayn Bernos, and certified fitness coach Sam Corrales, who joined the empowering dialogue about their unique experiences and life journeys as women.

Ayn Bernos on being a voice of influence

Ayn Bernos rose to prominence on TikTok for being unapologetically herself, flaws and all. She's always been an advocate of self-love, and of embracing the skin and body you're born with.

According to the Ayn, she's always been intentional about using her sphere of influence to empower women to be confident.

"When I joined Miss Universe Philippines 2021 [with a height of] 5'3", a lot of people [told me], 'ang liit mo, who says you can be a beauty queen?' and I was like, 'if you're saying that about me, you're saying that about everyone, every Filipina who looks like me which is quite a lot because I'm very common," she recalled.

This is why for Ayn, it is important to represent herself as confidently as possible within her sphere of influence.

"Embrace yourself as much as you can because you're not only representing yourself but other women as well who are following your footsteps, and I've gotten it from women before me, and I hope that it's also something that I can impart to the women after me," she added.

Chesca Garcia on motherhood

A well-known celebrity mom to three adorable kids, Chesca Garcia believes raising her kids to be God-fearing and obedient to their parents is vital for them to grow up grounded and well-rounded.

"I try to make sure my children know who their anchor is, so anchor would have to be God first, then family [next] to keep them grounded and connected to who they really are," Cheska said.

"I always tell my kids, you can always come to mommy, we can always talk about things, so they know that their safe space is with me where I do not judge them, but I'm here to listen to them," she added.

A former athlete turned fitness coach, Sam Corrales is one of the many Filipina fitness trainers breaking barriers in the wellness industry.

"One thing I continuously face in the fitness world is people telling me not to lift weights because I will look too manly," Sam said.

"Maybe when I was starting out 10 years ago, it was really a male-dominated space, I'm sure some of us would still get intimidated with weights and men looking super buff, and you just get stares," she added.

According to Sam, people had doubts about whether or not she could lift weights with such a petite figure.

"Well, I could [lift weights], and for me, that is a way to break barriers and be confident in my own skin despite not being so tall," she said.

The #IAmWoman campaign was powered by Lactacyd Feminine Hygiene and Buscopan Venus as the brands' way of being one with the global community in honoring International Women's Day 2023.
