Megan Young, R'Bonney Gabriel, Venus Raj headline Philippine Independence Day parade in NYC

Megan Young, R' Bonney Gabriel, and Venus Raj took the streets of New York City in their best Filipiniana to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day.

On Instagram, Megan Young shared snaps from the street party, where she is seen wearing a bright yellow Filipiniana number created Filipino designer Cherry Veric that she paired with black boots and black gloves.

In her photos, Megan is joined by Venus Raj, who wore a similar Filipiniana dress; Xian Lim, who paired his Barong Tagalog with khaki pants and white sneakers; as well as Pia Wurtzbach's wedding dress designer Bessie Besana, whom Megan called "one of my constants" in her Instagram Stories.

"I am blessed to have a friend in you. Love you so much and so happy I got to spend this work weekend with you," Megan added.

According to Cherry, the matching gowns of the beauty queens aims to marry Philippine and New York traditions. Megan's bright yellow gown "blends Filipiniana with the New York icon, the yellow taxi" while Venus' black and white number "pays tribute to the Filipiniana and the landmark newspaper, the New York Times."

Meanwhile, the official account of the Miss Universe organization posted videos of reigning Fil-Am beauty queen R' Bonney Gabriel as she proudly waved the Philippine Flag from the Miss Universe float.

"Coming to you live from the Filipino Day Parade in NYC!" Miss Universe wrote as it tagged R'Bonney.

The Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York City is the largest Philippine Independence Day Parade outside the Philippines. It happens every first Sunday of June, traversing down Madison Avenue.

Now on its 33rd year, the Philippine Independence Day Parade also included the MassKara Festival Performers from Bacolod City.
