Juanito Torres pays tribute to Philippine heroes in new Independence Day piece

Juanito Torres has unveiled a new painting ahead of the Philippines’ 125th Independence Day, paying tribute to the country's national heroes.

The contemporary artist, in his 58” x 85” “Parade of Heroes” painting, featured Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Antonio Luna, Melchora Aquino, Gregorio del Pilar, and Macario Sakay.

Leaders that took part in the 19th century Philippine Independence movement are also seen in the piece.

Juanito’s painting was revealed on June 3 during the Salcedo Auctions “Finer Pursuits; Important Philippine Art and Rate Collectibles,” where it was bid on and sold for a record price.

His other works can be seen as part of the permanent collections of major museums in the country, including the Museum of the Katipunan in San Juan City, the Miguel Malvar Museum in Batangas, the Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo, and the Luna Museum in Ilocos, among others. —Carby Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
