Planning on taking a culture trip this Independence day? Check out these spots

This Independence Day is a perfect opportunity for Filipinos to appreciate the country's history. And what better way to do it but a culture trip?

This was the idea of Manolo Quezon, the grandson of the late president Manuel Quezon, during his recent guest appearance on "The Howie Severino Podcast."

"Sa akin, magsimula ka sa Luneta, 'di ba? Puntahan mo ang Luneta and look at it with fresh eyes. Tingnan mo 'yung Rizal monument to be sure," the popular writer and historian said.

If you're planning on taking Manolo's suggestion of taking a culture trip this June 12, here are some places you might want to visit.

1. Fort Santiago

This coming celebration of the country's Independence Day, the Intramuros Administration is one of those that will offer an exciting deal.

On Monday, to celebrate the occasion, they are offering a free guided tour promo at Fort Santiago.

The promo comes with every Fort Santiago ticket, and the tour is good for an hour.

Guests may come at any time between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the guided tour.

2. National Museum of the Philippines

The National Museum of the Philippines will also be open to the public for free this Independence Day.

This will include the National Museum Complex in Manila as well as its regional, area, and site museums across the country.

"This coincides with the last day of two temporary exhibitions at the National Museum of Fine Arts - The Longest Journey: The First Journey Around The World and The Philippine Center New York Core Collection of 1974, both located on the 4th floor," the museum said.

3. Ayala Museum

The Ayala Museum in Makati City is also holding a "Free Admission Day" on June 12!

Visitors will get the chance to witness its all-new exhibition "SPLENDOR: Juan Luna, Painter as Hero," together with the long-lost Luna painting "Hymen, oh Hyménée!"

Pre-registration through ayalamuseum.org/freeday is required.

4. Pinto Art Museum

For those who are from the East or are planning on visiting the East, the Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo City is a must-see exhibition space.

From paintings to sculptures, it houses a large and diverse collection of artworks by various local artists.

They are also open this June 12, with entrance rates ranging from P125 to P250.

5. Your local plaza

Manolo also recommended local plazas among the spots that Filipinos must visit.

"Ang puso ng bawat bayan sa ating sistema ay plaza," he said. "Nandu'n ang simbahan, nandu'n ang bahay ng pamahalaan."

"Mula roon, puwede mong lakbayin ang mga bahay ng mga kilalang tao at doon mo matatanong: Bakit ba sila ang kinikilala ng lugar na ito?" he added.

Have a wonderful trip, Kabayan!
