Oscars 2024: 'The Boy and the Heron' nominated for Best Animated Feature Film

"The Boy and the Heron" has been making waves in the awards season!

The Studio Ghibli film just received a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.

It will vie for the trophy along with other nominees "Elemental," "Nimona," "Robot Dreams," and "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."

"Spirited Away" is the only Studio Ghibli film to win an Oscar. Other titles from the studio which received a nomination are "Howl's Moving Castle," "The Wind Rises," "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya," and "When Marnie Was There."

Previously, "The Boy and the Heron" won Best Animated Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, the first for a Studio Ghibli film.

It was also nominated for Best Animated Film at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.

The film is directed by legendary Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. The 83-year-old Japanese filmmaker came out of retirement to work on the film.

"The Boy and Heron" was released last year, 10 years after Miyazaki's last film, "The Wind Rises."
