Duque's solo (R)Evolution, collaborative (Re)Union open at Altro Mondo

Altro Mondo Creative Space will simultaneously open on Saturday, April 27, a solo exhibit by artist JJ Duque, and collaborative exhibition by Duque, Piaget Martelino, Alfonso Recto, and Rachel Le Roux.

Dubbed (R)Evolution, Duque's collection showcases a departure from his usual structured techniques, "embracing spontaneity, and freedom in his exploration of light, shadow, and texture."

"My works for (R)Evolution evoke the inspiration of a free soul that offers an imagination into things that are unknown and yet familiar. It carries on the universal concept of wholeness and simplicity with the inclusion of the circle that has given identity to my art," Duque said in Altro Mondo's press material.

"(R)Evolution is not just a showcase of artistic evolution but a celebration of resilience and creative liberation," he added.

Through a fusion of distinctive styles and perspectives, (Re)Union offers viewers a dynamic dialogue on innovation, introspection, and the multifaceted nature of art.

"My artworks have a central theme of exploring the essence of being a woman. Through portraying a symphony of emotions - raw, intimate, and undeniably powerful - my goal is to create a space for reflection and dialogue," Le Roux said.

Martelino said, "In the early 2000s I switched from creating paintings/sculptures to mainly pen and ink pieces, and starting 2023, I started to merge my pen and ink style with my old painting style. These pieces are what came out of that.”

"JJ, Piaget, and I all have a unique approach to abstraction. I think we all come to painting with a playful attitude but express ourselves in very different ways. I feel that I’m contributing a more raw and gestural aspect to the show with my works," Recto said.

Both exhibits are curated by Ayni Nuyda and will run until May 25. The shows open at 5 p.m.

"(Re)Union is where artistic diversity meets collaborative evolution. It offers a space for mutual support, growth, and dialogue, reminding us of the enduring bonds that unite us as artists and friends," Nuyda said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
