Antipolo artists shine in Pistahan sa Mayo

Several homegrown artists proudly showcased their love for arts in a community-run traveling art fair in Antipolo, Rizal.

Called "Pistahan sa Mayo," the art fair is a two-day event aiming to "continue Antipolo's current trajectory as a regional art center" as part of the celebration of the National Heritage Month.

Aside from that, it also aims to promote and support their homegrown artists' crafts.

"We wanted na 'yung mga artist namin na shy ay mag-shine eventually at maging sustainable sila kanilang mga talent," Antipolo Tourism Officer Magel Cadapan told GMA News Online.

Cadapan also said that they wanted to give their artists an "alternative space" to express their love for art.

Since debuting in early 2023, Sining Antipolo, or "Antipolo's traveling art show," is part of a series that started with Sining Taktak, continuing in other locales around Rizal Province's capitol.

Now on it's sixth edition, the travelling art fair was held at Ed's Farm in Antipolo, Rizal from May 25 to 26 featuring the works of several homegrown artists.

Among the artworks exhibited were paintings created by the Amihan Abueva's Sewing Hope NGO, bags made by Antipolo City Jail Female Dormitory inmates through their livelihood programs; art and handicrafts from the Autism Society Philippines – Antipolo and also from Tahanan Sta. Luisa (TSL)'s rescued girls.

Aside from artworks, the Pistahan also showcased the talent of Antipolo locals when it comes to music and performing arts through the performance of Antipolo City Band and URSAC Hiyas ng Rizal.
