Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra bring K-drama OST classics to life in concert series

Classic K-drama hits make a classic comeback once more with "OST Symphony II: K-drama in Concert."

The concerts, held at Samsung Hall in SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City, is the second installment of a tie-up collaboration between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA),  the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC), and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

This year, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra returns with Maestro Heriminigildo Ranera to deliver classical arrangements of iconic Korean soundtracks.

The show opened with a medley of tracks from "Squid Game," "Extraordinary Attorney Woo," "Descendants of the Sun," and "Love in the Moonlight."

The orchestra also later performed tracks from "the World of Married" and "Mr. Sunshine."

Kapuso actresses Kyline Alcantara and Angel Guardian were introduced as special guests, performing "My Destiny" from GMA's My Love from the Stars and "Bagong Tadhana" from "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre," respectively.

"[The Philippines and Korea share a bond of] friendship and shared passion for culture. This bond is perfectly captured in the success of Korean dramas, which found a beloved home in the hearts of many Filipinos… 'My Destiny' is more than just a song. It's an anthem for a destined connection, a matter for the profound lasting and beautiful partnership between the two nations," Kyline said in her speech.

"[Sang'gre] focuses on a brand new generation of protectors, each one carrying the spirit, courage, and legacy of the original Sang'gre sisters… As someone deeply honored to be part of this journey, I have witnessed the passion poured into every detail, every story, every scene, and every moment. It's a magical world built with love and devotion both to it's past and the new era it's creating," added Angel.

Korean singer-songwriter YEGNY performed hir songs from "Goblin," "Memory of Us: I Fall Into You," "Lovely Runner," "Hospital Playlist," "K-Pop Demon Hunters," and "Itaewon Class."

Fellow Korean singer-songwriter Isaac Hong also appeared to perform songs from "Queen of Tears," "Our Unwritten Seoul," "Da Capo," and "When Life Gives You Tangerines."

The PPO closed the show with an arrangement of tracks from "Crash Landing on You," "Hwang Jin Yi," "Behind the White Tower," "Goblin," and "My Love From the Star."

The concerts followed after a K-OST and K-Show Production Workshop were held with GMA Network as part of a partnership to promote collaborations between the Philippine and Korean entertainment industries.

The concerts also featured Gyeongju Province as the destination for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in South Korea. —MGP, GMA Integrated News
