Philippine Dermatological Society unveils 3rd edition of Kalon fundraising exhibit
The Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) has launched the third edition of Kalon, an art exhibit and fundraiser benefiting the organization’s outreach programs.
Meaning “beauty that is more than skin deep," Kalon takes place at the Marriott Grand Ballroom until November 7. It is organized by PDS doctors and features 110 items ranging from clothing and accessories to artworks that start at P2,500.
Speaking to GMA News Online, PDS president Maria Jasmin Jamora said funds raised from the exhibit are used to treat indigent patients across the Philippines through the organization’s Skin Week initiative.
“The PDS will host Skin Week, where we have over 80 free clinics across the Philippines, and we will serve over 8,000 patients with free medicines,” she said.
“Come to our skin week clinic and we will provide you free consultation and medications,” Jamora added.
PSD initiated Kalon in 2023 and according to Jamora, the society has been working closely with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) over the past two years, to address various skin concerns, including fungal infections and scabies.
Aside from the BJMP, the PDS has also reached geographically isolated areas, such as Linapacan in Palawan, through funds raised by the Kalon art exhibit.
“Naka-serve kami ng mga pasyente doon na generally hindi pa nakakita ng kahit anong dermatalogists,” she said.
According to Jamora, some of the most common skin concerns they address during outreach programs include pimples, fungal infections, scabies, impetigo, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and warts. — LA, GMA Integrated News
