Coachella through the years: Filipino artists who rocked the festival's stage
BINI, Katseye's Sophia Laforteza, and Nine Inch Noize's Mariqueen Maandig made history at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival, but there are many more Filipino artists who have performed at the festival through the years.
From the Black Eyed Peas' Apl.De.Ap and Pixies' Joey Santiago to No Rome and Beabadoobee, here are more Filipino artists who have rocked Coachella.
Apl.De.Ap of Black Eyed Peas – 2003 and 2015
The Black Eyed Peas performed at the 2003 edition of the festival. It was the same year that they released the album “Elephunk,” which holds modern-day classics like “Shut Up” and “Let’s Get It Started.”
In a fan-posted video, the members, including Filipino Apl.De.Ap, hyped up the crowd with “Karma.”
The Black Eyed Peas were also among the special guests of David Guetta’s Coachella set in 2015, where they performed “I Gotta Feeling” and “Awesome.”
Joey Santiago of Pixies – 2004
The 2004 edition of Coachella was one of the most iconic ones for a number of reasons, and that includes the reunion of Pixies.
According to Rolling Stone, the members were not doing well financially, and so a reunion was what was needed at the time.
Pixies co-founder and lead guitarist Joey Santiago is a Filipino-American who performed with his band with a setlist that included their hit songs “Caribou” and “Where is My Mind.”
H.E.R. – 2019
Filipino-American singer H.E.R. was part of Coachella's lineup in 2019, where she performed at the Outdoor Theater. H.E.R. was fresh from a North American tour and a Grammy win that year, for Best R&B Performance for "Best Part (with Daniel Caesar)”.

Olivia is known for the songs “Driver’s License,” “Traitor,” and “Déjà vu," among many others.
