GMA Kapuso Foundation to build school building in Talisay, Cebu

The GMA Kapuso Foundation will construct a Kapuso School Building at Lawaan Elementary School in Talisay, Cebu.

According to "24 Oras" Monday, the Kapuso School Building will have three classrooms and a comfort room.

Lawaan Elementary School served as an evacuation center for residents when Typhoon Tino battered parts of the Visayas in November 2025, with Maria Siatanan's family among those who took shelter in the school.

"Mahirap po ma'am sa umpisa, said Maria Siatanan Wala na kaming gamit, nag evacuate kami dito walang wala na talaga. maraming nagbibigay," she recalled.

"It was hard at first. We did not have anything," she said in Filipino. "When we evacuated here, we were empty-handed. Many people extended their help."

The school building will also provide relief to learners and educators, as the lack of classrooms has become an issue due to the large number of students at Lawaan Elementary School.

Per the report, the building's construction was made possible with the help of ADM Cares.

"Kapuso Schools are really built to last," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog in a mix of Filipino and English. "When they donated, they asked if it could be for a school here in Talisay because they really wanted to help."

Meanwhile, ADM Animal Nutrition plant manager Reynaldo Geverola said they chose to work with GMA Kapuso Foundation because their own organization is aligned with its school development projects.

"You have a track record of doing this very well," he said of the foundation.

According to data from the Office of Civil Defense in November 2025, the reported death toll from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino reached 269. A total of 523 individuals also sustained injuries, while 113 were reported missing.
