So said fashion designer Christine Lam in GMA News' 24 Oras on Monday.
Lam said that aside from being the color of the year, emerald green is also a good choice for your make-up.
Lam then explained that there has been a recent change in how Filipinos view fashion and style in general.
“People now are more adventurous kasi... Individual na 'yung fashion natin ngayon. Hindi na tayo 'yung parang dati na if uso ang black lahat naka-black,” she said.
However, she says that what's most important is that you are comfortable with what you are wearing to bring out the true fashionista in you.
Monochromatic columns, sweet ruffles
Meanwhile, image and fashion consultant Olen Lim says that monochromatic columns, sweet ruffles, skirts and pantsuits will be 'in' for 2013.
Denim dresses will also be making a comeback but with a more feminine touch along with chrysanthemum prints, Asian inspired and geometric designs.
Aside from this, Lim says that mid heels will be the expected trend for shoes while jewelry again will be more exotic this time.
“Kung 'yung rings mo isa lang [sa isang kamay] last year, siguro magci-circle na sa tatlong daliri [kada kamay this year],” she said adding, “It's getting to be bolder.”
To keep up with all of these changes, fashion design student Ella Castillo has a trick.
“Bumibili ako ng plain dresses. Sa accessories na lang ako bumabawi, para hindi na masyado magastos sa damit,” she said.
Fashionable hairstyles and make-up
As for hair, the mohawk if emerging as the top hair trend for 2013, the Year of the Water Snake.
But the 2013 mohawk is not so severe as it can go with the professional or corporate look.
“It's leaving the past behind. So basically new year, new life, new beginning so new haircut,” said Thomas Ellsworth, senior creative stylist of Elevation Salon as he was having a 2013 mohawk haircut.
“Although medyo sabay sa uso pero unique siya in a way,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Pia Galang says that keratin blowout, the new hair treatment process, “makes me feel confident and beautiful.”
This treatment will be replacing rebonding because keratin blowout will be the new hair treatment of the town for 2013.
“Keratin's good because it's actually adding protein that you were first born [with] back into the hair,” said Aaron Sacks, an international senior stylist from Elevation Salon.
Meanwhile, copper, orange and navy blue are expected make-up colors this new year.
Sacks says that for 2013, we will be seeing a lot more of the soft smokey eye effect.
“A smokey eye doesn't mean that it has to be black. It can be any kind of color but just smoking it down using deeper tones in that color,” he said.
Meanwhile, an earlier report forecasts that neons, bright colors and vintage 60's looks will be 'in' this 2013. —Andrei Medina/KG, GMA News
