Lisa Macuja-Elizalde to perform swan song in 'Legends and Classics'
As part of her three-year Swan Song series before she retires at the end of this year, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde is set to perform "The Legends and the Classics Encore" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater on Oct. 12 and 13.
"I love to dance. I really love to dance and although it is more difficult for me now—I am older—I'm also wiser," she said in a "Chika Minute" interview with Nelson Canlas on "24 Oras."
The ballerina had thought that she would have to cut short her Swan Song series due to problems in her ankles last year. However, "I tried an alternative treatment. It was plasma-enriched platelet injection. I had six shots in both ankles and rest, acupuncture, some cross training, alternative medicine, alternative training and I was able to go back," she recalled.
Macuja-Elizalde will be joined by two other world-class Filipina talents for "The Legends and the Classics Encore": actress and singer Lea Salonga, best known internationally for her Laurence Olivier Award- and Tony-winning performance as Kim in the West End and Broadway productions of "Miss Saigon," and renowned pianist Cecile Licad, who, at the young age of 20, was awarded the grand prize of the Leventritt Foundation in 1981. — Mac Macapendeg/BM, GMA News
