Cerezo used a variety of off-white hues to create her latest collection.
Staying true to her simple silhouettes, designer Jaz Cezero featured a collection to remember at the recently concluded Philippine Fashion Week.
"Throne," her 10-piece Spring/Summer 2014 collection of nude, ecru, gray and off-white hues, is the story of a woman's journey from princess to queen—a queen who is defending her throne.
"I was just looking for furniture, parang balak ko magpagawa ng custom-made furniture, tapos I was inspired by the old Spanish chairs," she revealed. "Parang nakaka-reyna 'yong mga ganong eksena, so doon na nag-umpisa ang collection."
She added, "As I was developing the collection, I imagined a queen's journey from being this innocent princess to having the crown—to defending her kingdom and finally achieving glory."
The designer presented an array of beautifully crafted dresses embellished with lace, intricate beadwork, embroidery, and crystals.

This beautifully embellished gown closed the show.
"I wanted to create something wearable, so I kept the silhouettes really simple but the details are really lush with intricate embroidery, generous embellishments and the fabric itself is high in texture. Some of the lace I used resembled chain mail," Cerezo said.
"I chose a very light and soft palette as I was aspiring to explore more on bridal wear," she added.
Her show, which was part of Philippine Fashion Week's Grand Allure event, showed a transition from romantic short dresses to heavily detailed gowns, with the clothes projecting a vision of class and modernity while retaining a regal feel—just like a queen.
"It's very royal. It's like the life of a queen from her being a princess and how she should defend her throne," the designer said. "Very elaborate, intricate, at saka talagang lush 'yong mga details. The silhouette remains simple to balance out the intricate details."

The balancing act

Cerezo takes her bow.
A designer who gained attention during her stint on the first season of Project Runway Philippines, where she placed fifth, Cerezo makes sure her design aesthetic complements her clients.
"As much as I like making beautiful dresses, I always consider who wears it. They should always complement each other. A wearer should carry her dress well, and a dress must enhance the wearer, not overpower her," she said.
"I really like making clothes that accentuate a woman's body and that's why most of my dresses are form-fitting," she added. "As an artist you must learn restraint. You can't put all the details in one dress—one must know how to balance the design."

Simple silhouettes and 'generous' embellishments.
For her latest collection, the designer showcased clothes that are wearable and at the same time exuded power and femininity.
