Iloilo goes for Guinness world record with candle-lighting for peace

Residents in Iloilo province are going for a new world record on Monday evening with the lighting of candles to form the world's biggest flaming image for peace.

The world record attempt will be held in Oton town, with 100,000 candles expected to be lit, Iloilo-based news site The Daily Guardian reported.

During the bid, the lit candles will form an image of the Philippine map for five seconds.

The participants will also hold a memorial activity for the victims of super Typhoon Yolanda, and a 30-minute meditation to promote inner peace and world peace.

According to the Guinness World Records website, Pakistan holds the record of the largest flaming image using candles with 35,478 candles simultaneously lit on December 10, 2009 by 118 Sandoz employees at the Hotel Serena in Faisalabad.

Monday's event will highlight this year's edition of the annual "Light of Peace in the Philippines," which seeks to help people experience true happiness through meditation.

The first Light of Peace event occurred on May 24, 2013 in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
