KWF launches contest to translate Mabini’s ‘La revolucion filipina’

The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) has opened this year's "Sali(n) Na!", its annual translation contest.

In a press statement, the KWF said that the work to be translated this year is Apolinario Mabini's "La revolución filipina," in honor of the hero's birth sesquicentennial, which is being celebrated this year.

According to the statement, the contest "aims to produce translations into the Filipino language of the country’s most important literary, cultural, and historical texts in order to create an official and reliable body and repository of Filipino translations of the said works."

Mabini's narrative, which was written in Spanish, must be translated into Filipino. The translation must be an original work that has not been published anywhere. Only one entry per translator may be submitted.

The deadline for the submission of entries is June 30. The best translation will win P50,000 and a plaque of recognition for the translator.

The KWF has provided a scanned copy of the text (.pdf) from the second volume of "La revolución filipina: con otros documentos de la epoca, con un estudio biografico sobre el autor" by Rafael Palma.

The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino is the government agency tasked to support the development and use of Filipino as the national language, as well as to protect the country's indigenous languages. — BM, GMA News
