After September siege, Zamboanga City folk to relive childhood

Some eight months after the attempted siege by followers of Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari, residents in Zamboanga City will relive their childhood this May with a series of games and activities.

Dubbed "Juego de Antes," the yearly tradition allows older generations to "relive their childhood through traditional games they once enjoyed," the city government said.

"Juego de Antes will run for three Saturdays (May 3, 10 and 17) and will feature games such as kadang-kadang, sack race, tumbahan lata, shatung, Limbo Rock, Tug of War, Gerry Base, domino and tubigan," it said.

One of the highlights of Juego de Antes is the kite-flying competition,

Participants can join two categories: the Traditional/Flat Kite category and the Figure Kite category.

"The kites will be judged according to the following criteria: Design – 30 percent (15 percent for Artistry and 15 percent for Uniqueness); Ease of flight/take-off – 35 percent; and Gracefulness – 35 percent," the city government said.

It added prizes for the three major winners in each category are P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

Special awards for each category include Bulador del Pueblo (Favorite of the Crowd award), Chiquiting Bulador (smallest flying kite award) and the Jumbo Bulador (biggest flying kite award). — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
