DepEd launches Library Locator Map identifying public school libraries nationwide
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday launched the Library Locator Map, a web-based map-viewing tool that identifies all public elementary and high school libraries and library hubs nationwide, a statement on the department's website said.
The statement quoted Education Secretary Armin Luistro as saying, “Dapat ang bawat bata ay mayroong paraan para makapagbuklat ng isang libro at makapagpatuloy ng pagbabasa.”
Knowing where to find a library, he added, would “help every child to foster love for reading.”
According to DepEd, almost 9,000 of the country's 9,855 registered public schools have been mapped, as well as the 188 library hubs in divisions nationwide. The library locator map is hosted by CartoDB.
DepEd invites the public to send their feedback on the locator map to action@deped.gov.ph. — BM, GMA News
