PHLPost launches ASEAN stamp design tilt

The search is now on for the Philippines' official stamp design that will welcome the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Economic Community in 2015.

The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) launched the nationwide stamp-designing contest to seek the design that the country will adopt.

"PHLPost shall send the first prize winning design to Thailand as the Philippine Official Entry to the 'Joint Issue of ASEAN Community Commemorative Stamp,'" it said.

It added P5,000 will be offered as first prize; P3,000 as second prize; and P2,000 as third prize.

On the other hand, the prize for best design in the ASEAN Community Commemorative Stamp is $1,000 while the prize for best postmark design is $500.

“This contest aims to realize the commitment of member-countries to issue a set of joint stamps themed ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community,’” said Postmaster General Josefina dela Cruz.

Deadline is Sept. 15

The PHLPost contest will run until September 15, and is open to high school and college students, artists, and other interested parties.

Entries must be made on a white illustration board measuring 18 inches by 18 inches.

Rendering should be by pastel on paper or canvass, oil, or acrylic.

"Computer-generated artwork and photographs will not be allowed," it said.

Also, a brief narrative interpretation should accompany submitted entries.

"Entries will be judged based on originality, relevance to the contest’s theme, visual impact, and artistic method. Entries may only be submitted via Domestic Express Mail Service or Express Pouch Service addressed to the ASEAN Community Commemorative Stamp Design Contest, Philippine Postal Corporation, Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division, 3rd Floor, Manila CPO Building, 1000 Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila," it said. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
