CCP to launch literary journal ‘Ani 38’ for 45th anniversary

The Cultural Center of the Philippines will launch its 38th literary journal in October as part of its 45th anniversary celebrations, which will start in September.

"Ani 38: The Human Body/Ang Katawan" will feature 147 works by 71 writers. According to "Ani" editor-in-chief Herminio S. Beltran, Jr., the current issue's theme will be more "concrete", compared to the previous issue's theme of "Cleansing and Renewal," which many of the writers found abstract.

“Undoubtedly concrete as it is, it may not be all that new however as a topic in creative writing,” said Beltran. “We therefore kept it open to related sub-topics, such as the stages of the human body from birth to death; the situations and conditions that affect it, namely, illnesses and wellness; bodily functions, and activities the body is capable of—all of which deal with human experiences that make for a wealth of materials for the creation of narratives and metaphors.”

Writing in English, Filipino, Hiligaynon, Ilokano, Ilokano-Baguio, Akeanon, Bikol, Pangasinan and Spanish, the authors who contributed to this issue are: E. San Juan, Jr., James M. Fajarito, Melchor F. Cichon, Nonilon V. Queano, Mark Joseph Z. Arisgado, Herminio S. Beltran, Jr., Frank G. Rivera, Santiago B.
