After rubber duck, Taiwan welcomes giant white rabbit for Moon Fest

Locals admire a 25.3-meter-long rabbit made of plastic and wood designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, being displayed during an art exhibition in Taoyuan county on September 2, 2014. The organizer said the rabbit is the second piece of art work following Hofman's rubber duck for the coming Mid-Autumn Festival and will be displayed between September 4 and 14 at the Taoyuan military base. Earlier this year, Taiwan's waters turned into a giant bathtub, thanks to a traveling giant rubber duck that had previously visited Brazil, Australia, Hong Kong and other countries. This time, it said hello to another giant animal—a white rabbit—for an art exhibition in Taoyuan county that kicked off Tuesday.

The rabbit is designed by Dutch conceptual artist Florentijn Hofman, who also designed the giant rubber duck. The 25.3-meter-high sculpture is made of plastic and wood.

The giant white rabbit, who seems to be enjoying the grass and the sun as it lounges on a slope, is part of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival in celebration of the harvest season.

So why a rabbit? It might be because the rabbit is a major character in Chinese folklore about the Moon Festival.
