Prince William, Kate expecting second baby
(Updated 6:51 p.m.) LONDON - Prince William and his wife Kate are "very pleased" to announce that they are expecting their second child, Kensington Palace said on Monday.
The prince's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II was said to be "delighted" at the news, which comes less than 14 months after the birth of the couple's first child, Prince George.
"The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news that their royal highnesses are expecting their second child," the palace said in a statement, but did not say when the baby is due.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron congratulated the royal couple in a post on his Twitter account. "Many congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I'm delighted by the happy news that they're expecting another baby," he said.
According to BBC News, the palace said that the duchess was suffering from acute morning sickness, just as she did when she was pregnant with Prince George.
Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition that may require supplementary hydration, medication and nutrients.
Due to this, the duchess might not accompany Prince William to the formal opening of a £21-million China study center at Oxford University on Monday, Clarence House said.
The duchess is currently being treated at Kensington Palace and not at a hospital, unlike when she was pregnant with Prince George.
The first royal baby just had his first birthday two months prior to the announcement. The second child, when it is born, will become fourth in line to the throne behind Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George.
