Auction for ‘Goldfinger’ 50th anniversary includes Aston Martin DB5 replica

To celebrate fifty years since the premiere of the James Bond movie "Goldfinger," Christie's in London is selling off a selection of memorabilia related to the movie in a special online charity auction which began on Monday.

The star attraction in the auction is a one-off gold plated third scale replica of James Bond's iconic Aston Martin DB5, first seen being driven by Sean Connery in the movie.

Prop makers Propshop, who manufactured models of DB5s used for special effect sequences in "Skyfall", have created a one-off gold model with 24-carat gold-plated detailing, complete with radio-controlled machine guns, bulletproof shield and revolving number plate.

"This is our very sixties-looking remote control unit. It was designed to look like a 1960s prop because it's 50 years of 'Goldfinger' this year and we very much wanted to keep in keeping with that aesthetically," said model maker Mitch Barnes.

"And as you can see it has a certain number of features: the number plates move and we can also do the machine guns which pop out—these are the 50-caliber machine guns for dealing with pesky traffic, I'd imagine. And at the rear we have a bulletproof screen that I can operate as well that pops up."

The Goldfinger car model is expected to sell for between £40,000 and £60-000 ($66,000 to $100,000).

However, for Bond fans with less deep pockets, there are a range of other items.

Also on sale is a unique Goldfinger Seamaster Aqua Terra wristwatch created by Omega for the anniversary of the movie. It is estimated to fetch between £8,000-£12,000 ($13,000-$20,000).

Other lots include a first edition "Goldfinger" book by Ian Fleming (estimate £1,000-£2,000) and an original British cinema poster for Goldfinger (estimate £2,000-£3,000).

The lots are on display alongside a real full-size Aston Martin DB5 (which is not part if the auction and comes from a private collection) at an Aston Martin showroom in London.

Bidding for the lots will close on September 17, the 50th anniversary of the movie's world premiere. — Reuters
