DOH exec-led ‘dancercise’ highlights Elderly Filipino Week

A "dancercise" led by a Department of Health official at a Pasay City mall kicked off Elderly Filipino Week Wednesday morning.

National Epidemiology Center head Dr. Enrique Tayag led some 2,000 senior citizens in an exercise via dancing, radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.

Several groups of senior citizens flocked to the Mall of Asia to take part in the "Walk for Life" marking Elderly Filipino Week.

GMA News TV's "News TV Live" reported Elderly Filipino Week is observed during the first week of October.

This year's theme is “Ang Nakatatanda ay Yaman, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan, Pangalagaan Kanilang Kapakanan.”

State-run Philippine Information Agency said registered walkers in Wednesday's activity will get free health services including bone scanning, random blood sugar testing, cholesterol testing, free pneumococcal vaccines, and medical consultation. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
