DTI holds surprise inspections of Christmas lights
With Christmas approaching, the Department of Trade and Industry this week started surprise inspections of stores selling Christmas lights to make sure they are safe.
In Vigan City in Ilocos Sur, a DTI team checked Christmas light sets to see if they have the import commodity clearance (ICC) mark, GMA Ilocos reported.
"Importante ito, kasi itong mga Christmas lights ay very critical tuwing Pasko," said senior trade and industry development specialist Anabelle Polanco.
Christmas lights that short or overheat could lead to fires.
The inspection team also checked the serial numbers of the importers and distributors.
As Christmas draws closer, the DTI continues to inspect holiday-related items to ensure consumers' safety. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
