Draco's redemption: JK Rowling clears up Malfoy's past

Harry Potter fans who have been clamoring for new information on Draco Malfoy got their wish ahead of Christmas Day with J.K. Rowling’s release of new content via Pottermore detailing the Slytherin student’s backstory.
According to The Daily Dot, the new scene from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince titled “Avada Kedavra” provides details of why Malfoy considered himself so special as a pure-blood, and how much he idolized his father, Lucius, even at a young age.
However, he began to cast doubts on his father’s beliefs after Voldemort rose to power again and the Malfoys fell from grace among the Death Eaters.
But while he never outrightly rebelled against Voldemort, Malfoy’s loyalty to the Dark Lord wavered, especially when people whom he was taught to consider as his enemies began showing him kindness and pity.
The drastic change in Malfoy’s views became even more apparent after he married Astoria Greengrass. Astoria refused to raise their son Scorpius to believe Muggles were scum, contrary to how they had been raised.
While Potter fans know Malfoy to be Harry’s arch-nemesis, Rowling reveals that Draco actually envied the talented boy wizard for being loved by everyone.
The new story on Malfoy, which is much longer than the new “Pottermore” content Rowling posted as of late, also includes the British author’s insights into the Slytherin bully that all Potter fans loved to hate, and the reason why she gave him a name that meant “dragon” but paired him with a wand fashioned from unicorn tail.
Surprisingly, Rowling said she was unnerved by those who fancy Malfoy despite his dark character.
“I have often had cause to remark on how unnerved I have been by the number of girls who fell for this particular fictional character (although I do not discount the appeal of Tom Felton, who plays Draco brilliantly in the films and, ironically, is about the nicest person you could meet). Draco has all of the dark glamour of the anti-hero; girls are very apt to romanticise such people,” she said.
However, Rowling said she believes Malfoy eventually grew to be a good person who raised his son to be better, although he still has a liking for dark artifacts at his home. — Xianne Arcangel/TJD, GMA News
