Amid MJ Lastimosa nat'l costume issue, analyst pushes for Pinoy designers for Miss Universe bets

While Filipino fans remained supportive of Mary Jean Lastimosa in her quest to bring home the Miss Universe crown, some couldn't help express their disappointment with her national costume.

 

The dress by Colombian fashion designer Alfredo Barraza met largely with negative reaction online, with many netizens comparing it to a birthday cake with its floral design.

 

 

Pageant analyst Jay Pataw said the 27-year-old beauty was able to carry the dress well.

 

Nakuha niya yung moment na yung kasi flawless siya eh. She was very impeccable sa lakad, in projecting. And she was... perfect ang figure niya," said Pataw in an interview with Cata Tibayan on "24 Oras" on Friday.

 

But Pataw said there's no reason for a foreign designer to continue dressing the Philippines' bets for the competition.

 

"I would very much want to see a Bb. Pilipinas wear a gown and a costume done by a Filipino designer. Because a Filipino designer knows more than anybody else how a Philippine costume is to be made," he said. — JST, GMA News
