Rajo Laurel posts his ideas for Miss PHL national costume, evening gown

Miss Universe has come and gone once again, leaving many Filipino pageant fans wondering about the results that could have been had Miss Philippines MJ Lastimosa worn a Filipino-designed gown instead of the much-criticized outfits created by Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza.

Fanning the flames of imagination are fashion designer's Rajo Laurel's Instagram posts containing sketches and ideas of what a Miss Philippines gown might look like were he picked to make it. His ideas were also featured in a report on Unang Balita.

Laurel stated in his Instagram post that for the national costume, he would have taken inspiration from local festivals such as the Ati-Atihan and modernized the look.

 

What if I were to do our national costume for our candidate for the #MissUniverse? I would be inspired by our nations fiesta's like the Ati-Atihan I would take it from there& modernize it. Perhaps it would look something like this.

He also had a few designs in mind for evening gowns, as posted Wednesday.

 

Some ideas for the evening gown portion. I would like to imagine something light & cool to the eye. Sky, nude & blush come to mind. Diaphanous & liquid silhouettes will definitely work.
