Attention, writers: Authors’ talk, feature writing workshop to be held this month

Here are a couple of ways to hone your writing skills this month: you can join a workshop on feature writing conducted by two seasoned scribes, or you can eavesdrop on a conversation between two award-winning novelists.

Encuentros en la literatura

Spanish novelist and critic Juan Manuel de Prada and Filipino author and educator Vicente Garcia Groyon will discuss their works and some aspects of being a writer in "Encuentros en la literatura," a talk to be held at the European Documentation Center of De La Salle University's Henry Sy Sr. Hall on March 18 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

According to a release from DLSU, "Encuentros" "aims to serve the local community’s cultural life by being an avenue for nurturing the craft of literary writing and creative practices between cultures."

The talk is organized by the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center and Instituto Cervantes de Manila, and supported by the Program for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture.

"Encuentros en la literatura" is open to the general public.

Feature Writing 101

Writer’s Block Philippines will conduct “Feature Writing 101” on Saturday, March 21 at Fully Booked, Bonifacio Global City. The workshop starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 6 p.m.

The workshop will be facilitated by Writer's Block Philippines founders Ana P. Santos, the 2014 Persephone Miel fellow by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and Nikka Sarthou-Lainez, whose writings have been featured in GMA News Online among other publications.

“We will discuss the building blocks of feature pieces and even share writing hacks to guide the participants in creating effective feature articles. Aside from the usual lectures, participants will have the opportunity to polish their skills through a writing exercise,” said Sarthou-Lainez.

Participants are not required to have professional writing experience.
