Finding the best swimsuit for your body type

With the mercury rising to almost 40 degrees Celsius, the dry season is really the perfect time to schedule a beach getaway and beat the heat. But this requires one itsy-bitsy thing: swimwear.

You don't need to have a "perfect bikini body" to look good on the beach. You just need to find the perfect swimwear for your body type that will accentuate your curves and control your problem spots.

This is what sisters Danah and Stacey Gutierrez said in a report on GMA-7's "Saksi." Aside from running The Plump Pinay blog, the two have also started designing swimwear for the women on the curvier side.

"Siyempre, number one is to emphasize the curves," said Stacey. "Siyempre kailangan mas makita 'yung hubog ng curves noong babae and sa line din namin, there is a tummy control na feature 'yung swimsuit."

Fashion designer Arnold Galang added that voloptuous women should try high-waisted bikinis, V-necks, and pleated one-piece swimwear.

Galang also gave style tips for the other common Filipina body types: rectangle, triangle, inverted pyramid, and hour-glass.

Rectangle: For women with rectangle-shaped figures, the fashion designer recommended high-waisted bikinis to give the illusion of curves. He also suggested color-blocked one-piece swimsuits to accentuate the waist.

"Normally, to create that illusion that there is curve in the middle of your body, dapat mas matchy-matchy ang top and bottom mo para tinignan nila, naiiba ang gitna, mas lumiliit kaysa top and bottom," he explained.

Triangle: Bottom-heavy women should wear colorful, printed, or decorative bikini tops to bring the focus to your upper part, Galang said.

"You should accentuate more your upper part. That means you can wear more decorative, more intricately designed bra tops," he said.

Inverted pyramid: For top-heavy women, or those with broad shoulders and narrow hips, the designed suggested tankinis.

Hourglass: Those with hourglass figures should show off their curves. Of course, lucky them, they can wear a two-piece bikini as they please.

Whatever body type you have, The Plump Pinay bloggers have a friendly reminder to all women.

"We don't need to look a certain way to be considered healthy. Dapat nga hindi pagpapayat ang goal eh, dapat pagpapalakas. Fitness, not thinness," said Danah. — Trisha Macas/BM, GMA News
