Iloilo centenarian credits chicken and vegetable diet for long life
A senior citizen in Iloilo celebrated a rare milestone last Sunday as she turned 100—and she credits a diet of chicken and vegetables for it.
Leonita Sucaldito's family celebrated the milestone at the birthday girl's house in Barangay Bilidan in New Lucena town, GMA Iloilo reported Wednesday.
Sucaldito, a.k.a. Lola Leoning, has outlived two of her six children.
"My mom was looking forward to it, that she will reach her 100th birthday," said eldest child Rhodora Velasquez.
Lola Leoning's secret to her long life? She watches her diet.
"Ang paborito at madalas kong kainin ay manok. Siyempre yung sinabawang gulay eh," she said.
Because of her age, however, Lola Leoning has some difficulty hearing.
Still, her eyesight remains fine and she can still sew.
"I saw her sewing in her room and I said, 'Ma, can you still thread the needle?' And she said, 'Look!'" said Velasquez. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
