‘Welcome to Germany?’ Goethe-Institut film series focuses on immigration


For its regular Wednesday film showings, the German cultural center Goethe-Institut has a new film series focusing on problems and issues faced by immigrants to Germany, and how these problems might be overcome.

"Welcome To Germany?" runs from April 29 until June 17 at the Goethe-Institut in Salcedo Village in Makati. Admission is free, and all the movies are screened in German with English subtitles.

One of the films in the lineup is "Jazz In Love", Baby Ruth Villarama's 2013 documentary about a young Filipino and his older German boyfriend.

The "Welcome to Germany?" schedule is below:

• April 29 - Soul Kitchen
• May 06 - Sascha (Sasha)
• May 13 - Die Fremde (When we leave)
• May 20 - Katzelmacher
• May 27 - Alles auf Zucker (Go for Zucker)
• June 3 - Die Kümmeltürkin geht (Melek leaves)
• June 10 - Gegen die Wand (Head on)
• June 17 - Jazz in Love

Each screening will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Goethe-Institut's Library.
