LOOK: YouScooper shares photos of Seoul’s colorful Lotus Lantern Festival


South Korean buddhists and tourists flocked to Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, South Korea, for the annual celebration of the Lotus Lantern Festival (Yeon Deung Hoe) from May 15 to May 17. The festival commemorates the birth of Buddha, which falls on May 25 on this year’s Korean lunar calendar.

A service for world peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula was also held in the square by Buddhist monks from all over the world.

A makeshift memorial of photos and prayer flags for the victims of the Nepal earthquake is set up in Gwanghwamun Square by members of the city's Nepali community.
 
Gwanghwamun Square is filled with Koreans, Buddhists, and tourists attending the service for world peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
