Two designs were prepared for the occasion, but both carry the slogan "Ateneo De Naga University 75 years of Magis. Living the Spirit. Forging new frontiers."
PHLPost printed 104,000 copies of the blue-colored stamps measuring 30 mm by 40 mm. Each stamp will be sold at P10.
In the first design, the Golden Knight symbol is featured, a reference to St. Ignatius of Loyola, founding father of the Society of Jesus.
St. Ignatius was a soldier before he was converted.
The second design features the iconic four pillars of the University.
Ateneo de Naga traces its roots to an invitation from Msgr. Pedro Santos, 31st prelate and first Archbishop of Caceres, to Fr. John Hurley, then Superior of the Philippine Jesuits Missions.
Santos invited Hurley to build a Jesuit school for boys in Naga.
Ateneo de Naga was founded May 2, 1940, with Francis Burns as its rector. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
