UP Maroons forward asks followers: Any suggestions on redesigning team logo?

Student athletes representing the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons now have a say in redesigning the logo of the team for the upcoming season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) after the new logo drew flak from social media users and the state university's alumni.

Maroons forward JR Gallarza on Wednesday posted in his Twitter account a photo of a text message asking for the players' thoughts on how the team's logo should look like.

Gallarza did not indicate who sent the message.

In his tweet, the player asked his more than 2,300 followers to give suggestions or submit their artworks to university officials.

"Any UP followers have any suggestions or artwork you want me to pass on? We have a chance to bring you back @iamOble," Gallarza said, tagging an account which refers to the Oblation.

The trademark Oblation, the main symbol of the university, was completely taken out of the Fighting Maroons' new logo.

The new logo features a warrior holding a shield with Baybayin characters spelling UP and a spear. — Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/BM, GMA News
