‘Titanic’ composer feared dead as plane crashes in California

Hollywood composer James Horner is believed to have died at the age of 61 after his private plane crashed in Southern California Monday morning (US time).

Reuters reported that Jay Cooper, a lawyer for Horner, confirmed that his client owns the plane that crashed in Los Padres National Forest.

"He's an experienced pilot, but I know nothing else," Reuters quoted Cooper as saying.

Reports say local authorities have yet to identify the victims of the plane crash.

The Hollywood Reporter meanwhile said that Horner's death was later on confirmed by his assistant, Sylvia Patrycja, in her Facebook page, writing: "We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent."

"He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road," she said.

Horner was born August 14, 1953 in Los Angeles, California and got his early training from the Royal College of Music in London, England.

Horner won two Oscars for his hit composition of "My Heart Will Go On" performed by Celine Dion for the 1997 movie "Titanic." He also snatched two Golden Globes for the said soundtrack, which he worked on with Will Jennings.

He has also received nominations for his work on the musical scores of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart, and Field of Dreams. —Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/KG, GMA News
