Ariella Arida to Pia Wurtzbach: ‘Sa iyo talaga ang korona’

Amid tension and controversy surrounding the coronation night of this year’s Miss Universe, Pinay beauty Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach still went home with the crown.

After 42 years of a Miss Universe title drought, Filipinos in the country and abroad celebrated her win, including Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida.

Earlier on Unang Hirit, she shared her experiences from the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, where she clinched the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe crown and Pia was first runner-up.

“Kapag may activities kami, si Pia lang ‘yung walang crown kasi runner-up siya,” Ariella recalled. “So parang, ang lungkot lang na siya lang ‘yung walang crown.”

However, Ariella said, even then Pia already had the makings of a successful beauty queen. “Kilala ko siya as someone na kapag gusto niya talaga ‘yung isang bagay, gagawin niya lahat para makuha ‘yun… Nakita ko talaga ‘yung passion niya for the pageant,” she said.

Pia has indeed come far, Ariella added. “I’m lucky enough to say na friend ko ‘yung Miss Universe. Super naiiyak ako watching her sa pageant and watching her win sa Binibini pa lang.”

“She was very flawless. I never doubted her.”
