WWE apes Miss Universe gaffe in own Slammy Awards

The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) staged its own Miss Universe-type of a mix-up during its Slammy Awards on Tuesday (Philippine time).

Professional wrestler R-Truth played Steve Harvey and announced the wrong Diva of the Year and gave the award to English professional wrestler and actress Paige when the real winner was WWE champ Nikki Bella.

Paige was already giving her speech when R-Truth went on stage and said she did not win.

"I'm sorry. I made a mistake," he said.

Paige was indignant but later resigned when Bella went on stage to receive her award. Despite the "confusion," the two divas eventually hugged each other.

Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach's winning the Miss Universe crown was marred on Monday after pageant host Steve Harvey mistakenly pronounced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo as the year's winner.

Harvey corrected himself but not after Arevalo was crowned and was already waving at the audience as the pageant winner. —Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
