Pia’s thought on being named first runner-up: ‘Sayang, kaunti na lang’

When host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced another contestant's name as the winner during the Miss Universe coronation night earlier this month, Pia Wurtzbach remembers thinking, "Sayang, kaunti na lang."

However, the rightful winner said, she has no regrets about anything that occurred on coronation night—from her controversial answer during the Q&A portion to the brief moment she was named first runner-up.

"I was ready for whatever the result was going to be. But when I was called as first runner-up instead, ang naisip ko talaga, 'Sayang, kaunti na lang,'" said Wurtzbach, meeting the press on Sunday, a day after her return to the Philippines.

During the press conference, which was held at Novotel Hotel in Araneta Center, the beauty queen also could not help becoming emotional as she remembered the last time she was at the same venue—during her send-off in November.

Wurtzbach added, "Actually, wala talaga akong regrets noon, ano man ang naging resulta. Alam ko sa sarili ko na binuhos ko lahat, binuhos ko lahat sa pageant na 'yun. Ang dami kong sinacrifice sa pageant na 'yun and I wouldn't have changed anything whatever the result was going to be. No regrets, absolutely no regrets."

The Miss Universe titleholder admitted that it was not an easy journey, but she could not be any happier to be back in her beloved country with the crown.

Following the grand press conference, Pia will be busy for the rest of the week with courtesy calls—including one on President Benigno Aquino III—a grand homecoming parade, several charity works, and a homecoming special.

She is also set to receive the Citation of Excellence at the Senate and the Congressional Medal of Distinction at the House of Representatives in Batasan Pambansa. — BM, GMA News
