DSWD to distribute cash aid to TNVS drivers on March 24

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will distribute financial assistance to Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers on Tuesday, March 24, amid rising fuel prices driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced the payout in a social media post on Monday, saying distribution will begin at 7 a.m. at designated locations.

Trump puts off threat to bomb Iran power stations, says ‘total resolution of hostilities’

TEL AVIV/JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said on Monday he had given instructions to postpone any military strikes against Iranian power plants for five days, just hours ahead of a deadline that threatened further escalation in the conflict now in its fourth week.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the US and Iran have had "VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE" conversations with Iran over the past two days about a "COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST."

DOF grants VAT exemption on indigenous natural gas

The Department of Finance (DOF) has granted a value-added tax (VAT) exemption on indigenous natural gas and related power generation, amid surging global crude prices linked to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

In a statement, the DOF said the new revenue regulations exempt from VAT the sale and purchase of indigenous natural gas, aggregated gas, and electricity generated using such gas, including ancillary services tied to power generation.

Another double-digit pump price hike set Tuesday, March 24

Motorists are set to face higher pump prices anew this week, as retailers on Monday announced another round of hikes—marking the 11th consecutive increase for gasoline and the 13th for both diesel and kerosene—amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

In an advisory, Jetti Petroleum said it will raise gasoline prices by P8.00 per liter and diesel prices by P18.00 per liter, effective 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 24.

Other oil firms have yet to announce their adjustments for the week.

Peso closes at new record low vs. US dollar at P60.3:$1

The Philippine peso retreated against the US dollar to carve out a new all-time low on Monday, as the conflict in the Middle East escalated over the weekend after both Iran and the United States issued threats against one another.

The local currency shed 20 centavos to close at P60.3:$1, its weakest performance to date after surpassing last Thursday’s close of P60.1:$1, the previous record low.

SP Sotto: House yet to send enrolled bill on fuel excise tax

Senate President Vicente “Sotto” III said Monday that the enrolled bill which would grant President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. the powers to suspend or reduce the excise tax on petroleum products has yet to be transmitted to the Senate. 

“No transmittal from HOR (House of Representatives) yet. They initiate the enrolled bill,” the Senate President told reporters. 

Asked why the House has not yet sent its copy of the bill, Sotto said, “Ask HOR. I [will] sign and send [it to] the President when I receive the enrolled copy.” 

To recall, the House on Wednesday adopted the Senate version of the bill in a bid to address rising oil prices amid the conflict in the Middle East. 

60-year old OFW back in PH amid Middle East conflict

Merlyn Agustin, a 60-year old Filipina domestic helper from Kuwait, recounted the worry and fear of her three children as she remained far from home amid the prevailing conflict in the Middle East. 

Her children’s wish over the past few weeks: “Mama, uwi ka nalang (Mama, just come home).” 

And on Monday morning—a day after Agustin’s 60th birthday, her children’s plea for their mother to come home was finally granted.

403 gas stations closed amid fuel price hikes — PNP

The number of gas stations who have closed amid rising fuel prices has increased to 403, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday. 

“Mula po siya sa 273 noong Miyerkules at umabot na nga po siya sa 403,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said at a press briefing.

(From 273 last Wednesday, it increased to 403.)

The PNP has monitored a total of 14,313 gas stations across the country, according to Tuaño.

Marcos orders creation of crisis committee amid Middle East conflict

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has ordered for the creation of a crisis committee amid the rising fuel prices brought by the conflict in the Middle East. 

According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro on Monday, Marcos already directed the creation of this committee even before suggestions were made to craft one. 

''Okay bago pa po may nag-suggest na gumawa ng crisis committee, nag-utos na po ang Pangulo na maggawa officially ng crisis committee, so hintayin na lang po natin ang dokumento, pina-finalized na po,'' Castro said at a press briefing. 

(Even before creating a crisis committee was suggested, the President already tasked for the creation of a crisis committee, so let's just wait as it is still being finalized.)
