Duterte shows off Marikina-made shoes to Cabinet secretaries

President Rodrigo Duterte proudly wore a pair of leather shoes custom-made from Marikina City, the so-called Shoe Capital of the Philippines, as he attended important meetings in Malacañang on Wednesday.

In an official photo released by the Palace, Duterte was seen showing off his shoes to some members of the Cabinet after his working lunch with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

“May nagpadala na babae, sabi niya ginawa ng tatay niya sa Marikina...Ang Filipino-made, sa craftmanship, number one; even sa furnitures, walang makatalo sa Pilipinas,” Duterte told members of his Cabinet.

Duterte paired his white barong and black pants with the high-cut, brown leather shoes sent to him by a shoemaker in Marikina.

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro earlier urged members of Congress and other attendees of Duterte’s state address to wear locally-made products and support their shoe industry. —ALG, GMA News
