How will the Bb. Pilipinas queens treat Miss China in their int’l pageants?
Will it be world peace with Miss China?
The Binibining Pilipinas queens were quizzed by the press on Wednesday and they ended up sharing their thoughts on highly political matters like the sharp increase in extrajudicial killings in the war on drugs.
Another pageant question thrown at them was, "How will you treat Miss China?"
The tension between the Philippines and China recently escalated after the Permanent Court of Arbitration handed down a ruling against the latter's "nine-dash line" claims.
China refused to acknowledge the validity of the ruling and its citizens took to social media to express their displeasure.
Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016 Nicole Cordoves said that she believes the rule of law should be followed. She added humorously, "I'm Chinese, so I would speak to her in Mandarin! So she would give me a very friendly beso!"
"The decision has been made. We have to obey the rules [and] we should respect that," Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2016 Maxine Medina elaborated. "They have to accept that [decision]."
"Miss China is just like any other candidate," Binibining Pilipinas International 2016 Kylie Verzosa said. "She's there to compete, just like us. I'll accept her with love, warmth, and respect."
"I'd still welcome her," Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2016 Nichole Manalo seconded, saying that borders and boundaries should not divide people.
"The way we treat China shoudn't be affected by how her country is acting. We treat her as a person." Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016 Jennifer Hammond said in true pageant fashion. "Why should we treat her differently from other girls in the pageant?"
"We always have to have respect for each other," Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2016 Joanna Louise Eden said. — BM, GMA News
