Scarlett Johansson, Beat Takeshi in new ‘Ghost in the Shell’ teasers
Paramount on Thursday released five teasers for the live-action movie adaptation of the Japanese cult classic "Ghost in the Shell." Three out of the five trailers show American actress Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Also shown in the teaser is actor and director Takeshi Kitano (popularly known as Beat Takeshi) as Daisuke Aramaki.
Fans have accused the studio of whitewashing after the casting was announced.
"They should have cast an Asian actress. (There are) plenty of good ones out there so don't make excuses," YouTube user Jaherys Milan wrote in the comments section.
Another user, LovelyPeach, added, "If Scarlett Johansson wants to be a role model she should've rejected the role but nope she just another white actress who wants roles just for money?."
Although some viewers expressed excitement, a few couldn't resist throwing a jab.
After Ghost in the Shell, Scarlet may be hunting for the role of Mulan.

Happy to see Takeshi Kitano in Ghost in the Shell but very sad to see Kusanagi ruined.
