Miss Universe 2016 candidates arrive in Manila


After the handful of Miss Universe candidates who flew into the country in the last few days, dozens are now expected to arrive today.

Miss Costa Rica Carolina Duran, followed by Miss Nicaragua Marina Jacoby, were Thursday's first arrivals, landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 5 a.m.

Next to arrive was Miss USA Deshauna Barber along with Miss Universe organization president Paula Shugart. They were both warmly welcomed by DOT Undersecretary Katherine de Castro.

Miss Canada Siera Bearchell, Miss British Virgin Islands Erika Creque, Miss Mexico Kristal Silva, Miss Vietnam Dang Thi Le Hang also arrived Thursday.

The Miss Universe delegates will be visiting several parts of the country for the rest of the month in the lead-up to coronation day on January 30. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/BM, GMA News
