Miss Australia to wear Great Barrier Reef-inspired national costume
Miss Australia Caris Tiivel will be wearing the Great Barrier Reef with her great smile for the National Costume Show of the 65th Miss Universe pageant.
Tiivel debut Steph Audino's design on January 5th in the Australian TV program Today.
Audino talked about the details of the dress on her Instagram account.
"I have drawn inspiration from the beautiful colours and textures found by over 600 types of coral and the countless species. It's beauty and colour is mesmerising so I have captured this in the creation with the different fabrics, shells and hand beading in the jumpsuit and over 100m of fabric in the skirt to represent the ocean waves," she explained.
She added, "I feel this is also a great opportunity to raise awareness and join the fight with many other around the globe to save the Great Barrier Reef."
An obituary for the Great Barrier Reef published in 2016 caused alarm online, but the Australian government insisted that they are making efforts to deal with the devastation of corals in the reef.
The National Costume Show is scheduled to be held after the Preliminary Show on January 26. The 65th Miss Universe coronation night will be held on January 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
